Irish and Scottish are in my Blood

I navigate the adventures
of my ancestors and their
quest for a better life!

Welcome to my website! My intent is to trace and recreate the various hardships my ancestors endured and overcame in seeking a better life for their families. Ultimately, they migrated from Europe to North America. They found harsh conditions or arduous  lifestyles to adapt to, earn a living, pay off debts, or just to survive and put bread on the table.
I get into all that on the various accounts I present in the posts I write. I am breaking down the accounts into two main sections, Moriarty, and Sinclair. Moriarty is my paternal side, and Sinclair my maternal. Time permitting I will branch out and add a third section for MY life’s adventures as well. It actually mirrors a number of aspects of my ancestors.

My DNA reveals that I am 49% Irish from Munster, Ireland where my grandfather Daniel Moriarty was born. I explore his journey from Ireland to Canada. Not finding gainful employment in Ireland my grandfather went to England where he was able to work in the shipyards. He met my grandmother there, got married, and had two daughters. As a family they had the opportunity to immigrate to Canada so they did. Ultimately, they endured harsh winters and a difficult lifestyle in Alberta before moving to Ontario. On my maternal side I have 22% Scottish through the Sinclair of southern Scotland. The story of my ancestor, John Sinclair coming to North America is one relating to the War of Dunbar and being taken prisoner. John was brought to Maine as a Scottish Prisoner of War (SPOW) – not a glorious quest but an interesting one just the same. I get into all the details and how so many hurdles were overcome. Ultimately, John paid his debt, prospered, and his descendants immigrated to Canada to grow and thrive. Learn more by clicking on the button below…
