The Moriarty Name

The name Moriarty in Ireland is derived from the native Gaelic O'Muircheartaigh Sept, taken from a Gaelic word meaning 'navigator'. This Sept are close relatives of the O'Donoghue and O'Mahony Septs and have always been associated with County Kerry in the South-West of the country.

Moriarty Coat of Arms

Moriarty Family Crest

The Moriarty coat of arms came into existence centuries ago. The process of creating coats of arms (also often called family crests) began in the eighth and ninth centuries. The new art of Heraldry made it possible for families and even individual family members to have their very own coat of arms.
